Everything you want to know about the German Pinscher

Introduction

The German Pinscher is a medium sized guard dog & ratter that originated in Germany well over a hundred years ago. His job was that of a typical German farm dog. Duties included ridding the farmers barns of vermin and protecting his family and property. He is alert, active, loyal, assertive and generally posses a high prey drive. His grooming requirements are minimal & he is generally a long lived, healthy companion. His primary demands are for attention and exercise. Daily training and long walks are a necessity. He must be a member of the family and included in all aspects of his families daily activities. The breed is in no way "just a dog" & will not tolerate only being thrown a bone in the back yard. He can be good with older well behaved children but caution is advised for families with small young children. Generally the German Pinscher prefers to be the only pet in the house hold.  He can peacefully coexist with other dogs in the same household, but caution is advised as aggression between dogs of the same sex is common.
